The insight that became Voltpathio

Andrew Kowalski spent eight years in industrial controls and building automation at a controls engineering firm in the Carolinas before co-founding Voltpathio in 2023. His work took him through dozens of BACnet commissioning projects — office towers, cold storage facilities, manufacturing plants — and the same frustration surfaced every time he looked at a BMS historian.

Every facility had twelve to twenty-four months of 15-minute interval data sitting in their historian. Every facility had weather available. Every facility had a shift schedule. None of them had software combining those three things into a forward-looking load forecast. They were reacting to demand spikes after they appeared on the bill, not before they happened.

The gap was not a data problem. It was a software problem. The BACnet write interface exists. The interval meter data exists. The weather API exists. What was missing was a system that closed the loop automatically — prediction to BMS schedule write, every hour, without a human in between.

Voltpathio was incorporated in Raleigh, NC in 2023 to build that loop. We raised angel funding in November 2025 to expand protocol coverage and build out the multi-site dashboard. We are not a research project — we are running live optimization in facilities today.

Three operating principles we take seriously enough to build into the product — not just the marketing

Measure everything

We never claim savings we have not logged. Every automated schedule change is attributed to a specific outcome delta. Your savings dashboard shows the math, not a summary. If a change didn't produce savings, we log that too.

No comfort trade-offs

We would rather save 18% than save 25% and get a complaint call. Temperature deviations from setpoint are bounded. Tenant experience is a hard constraint, not a soft preference. If a schedule change cannot stay within setpoint tolerance, it doesn't run.

Connect, don't replace

Your BMS stays. Your control logic stays. Your operations team's procedures stay. We are not a fault detection tool, an SCADA replacement, or a PLC reprogrammer — we add a 48-hour prediction layer on top of the systems you already run. The gateway uninstalls in 30 minutes if you ever want it gone.
